Newcastle picked up a crucial win this afternoon as they saw off Southampton at St James’ Park to give themselves plenty of room to the bottom three.
Three goals by half-time were enough to see the game home for the Magpies. Although a nervy finish was always on the cards when James Ward-Prowse made it 3-2 and Jeff Hendrick saw red for the home side.
However, Steve Bruce’s men showed resilience and composure to see the game out. And Shearer, taking to his Twitter account following the game, was quick to highlight three Newcastle stars for special praise.
Almiron, in particular, seemed to really find his feet today as he put in a tremendous display of attacking prowess and desire.
Willock’s debut was also an impressive one, as he put in the sort of performance that had seen him so highly-rated in North London with parent club Arsenal.
Finally, Isaac Hayden continues to be superb and a leader for Newcastle. More of the same from him will go a long way to ensuring Bruce once again keeps the Mags in the league.
TBR View: A completely different Newcastle United here, Shearer will be delighted
Nobody wants to see Newcastle do well more than Alan Shearer and today was quite the performance.
A more attacking display got its rewards. Even with Callum Wilson going off injured, Newcastle looked a threat and Almiron was the spearhead of everything good in attack.
More of this will go down a treat wit the Toon Army and should ensure a comfortable final few months of the season as well.
