BBC pundit Alan Shearer reckons Aston Villa’s survival hopes will hinge on the form of John McGinn this season.
The Premier League’s leading goalscorer selected the Scot for his Team of the Week, and has been hugely impressed with his contributions so far.
McGinn helped himself to another goal during the 2-2 draw with Burnley, taking his tally to three for the season so far.

The 24-year-old, who signed for the club in 2018 from Hibernian, is really catching the eye and Villa supporters are already starting to worry about his long-term prospects at the club.
Assessing his latest performance, Shearer said of McGinn: “Great energy in midfield, a superb eye for a pass and got his third goal of the season, while another was overturned by VAR. He has become invaluable to his team’s prospects of staying up.”
TBR’s view
McGinn’s influence for Villa is growing week on week and, as Shearer says, he will be crucial for the club as they seek to stay in the Premier League come May.

In the eyes of many, he is the best player the club have had in years, and while he is the starting XI, Villa always have a chance of getting three points.
If he can stay fit and keep performing to the high standards he has set so far, then Villa will stand a great chance of beating the drop.
