Alan Shearer lauds 'brilliant' Sadio Mane after Liverpool smash Arsenal

Former England and Newcastle striker, Alan Shearer, was full of praise for Liverpool forward Sadio Mane this week, as he selected him in his Premier League team of the week.

Mane was in fine form once again for the Reds as they dismantled Arsenal at Anfield to keep themselves well and truly in the title race. Mane got himself on the scoresheet, and was a menace throughout the game.

The strike from the Liverpool man took Mane’s tally to nine in just 17 games this season in all competitions. Alongside Mo Salah, the Senegalese star continues to purr in Jurgen Klopp’s non-stop pressing system.

And Shearer, who also picked Trent Alexander-Arnold in his TOTW for, felt it was just another day at the office for Mane.

“Another match, another goal, and another assist. Yet another brilliant performance from Mane,” Shearer wrote.

Short and sharp words from the former England man, but wise and true words to describe a wonderful talent.

TBR’s View: Sadio Mane is so important for Liverpool

It can often go under the radar just how good Mane is for the Reds with how well Mo Salah does on a weekly basis. But the forward is simply irreplaceable for Jurgen Klopp.

Mane, like Salah, is heading into the final 18 months of his contract with the club. It is imperative that his deal is sorted out. If the Reds lost one of or both of their star men, it would be an utter disaster.

Shearer uses the word ‘brilliant’ for Mane here. And he’s bang on. The frightening thing for other teams is that it is very much business as usual for Liverpool, Mane, and Salah. Their consistency is what sets them apart.

Expect to see Sadio Mane included in many more teams of the week going forward into the rest of this season.
