Alan Shearer jokes that he wants Newcastle to sign PSG superstar Kylian Mbappe

Alan Shearer has joked in an interview with renowned French outlet Canal+ – as per Goal – that he believes there is only one Premier League side that should sign Kylian Mbappe from PSG – and that is his beloved Newcastle United.

Newcastle are reportedly closing in on a takeover, though a deal is dragging on and supporters are becoming more and more concerned at the time it is taking to finally make an announcement – and end Mike Ashley’s 13-year reign as owner.

However, should a takeover occur, Newcastle will reportedly become the wealthiest club in England – more so than Manchester City. It means spending this summer could soar, as long as it complies with financial fairplay.

World Cup winner Mbappe’s name has been strongly linked with Liverpool of late with a recent Le10Sport report claiming Jurgen Klopp had contacted Mbappe’s father. Shearer wants Mbappe in England, but joked Newcastle should sign him.

“I would very much like Kylian Mbappe to come [to England]. With his skill, the confidence he has in someone so young, and all the goals he scores, that would be a big plus for the Premier League.

“When asked who he would want £375,000-a-week (Mail) Mbappe to sign for, Shearer joked: “I only see one club for him, it’s Newcastle of course.”

TBR’s view – Liverpool is Mbappe’s best fit, but can Newcastle challenge?

Yes, Newcastle’s spending power is likely to tempt a number of players into joining the Toon project, in which the club look to build and become as big as Manchester City have done over the past decade.

But right now, without Champions League football and without a takeover even being confirmed, there is zero chance that Newcastle could sign Mbappe. Liverpool is Mbappe’s best fit, but with the financial restraints of the health crisis – he won’t be going anywhere.
