Alan Shearer has summed up Tottenham Hotspur’s FA Cup fifth-round elimination with a brutal six-word response.

Antonio Conte’s charges were knocked out of the competition by Middlesbrough on Tuesday.

Not only did Tottenham fail to break the Championship side down in 90 minutes, but the hosts had plenty of chances against Spurs.

Harry Kane did have the ball in the back of the net on the hour mark, but it was ruled out for offside.

With no goals in normal time, extra time beckoned.

And in the 107th minute of the match, Josh Coburn scored what turned out to be the winner for the hosts.

The 19-year-old, who had come off the bench, hammered an effort past Hugo Lloris and into the far corner to spark wild celebrations at the Riverside.

It was another underwhelming performance from Spurs, who face yet another season without silverware.

“Spurs were so flaky, typical Tottenham,” an unimpressed Shearer said after the game (1/3/22, 22:28).

Prior to that, he complimented Boro.

“This was no fluke, Boro were the better team from start to finish,” said the Newcastle legend.

“Chris Wilder can be so proud of his team. The crowd were up for it, the players were up for it.”

But while Boro are flying high at present, Antonio Conte will once again rue his side’s inconsistency.

Tottenham were brilliant against Leeds and Manchester City, but against Boro they were disappointing once again.

There’s a lot of work to be done at N17 over the coming months and the summer, that’s for sure.
