BBC pundit Alan Shearer was impressed with Everton duo Yerry Mina and Andre Gomes as the Toffees clicked into life against West Ham on Saturday.
As per the Premier League’s official website, Shearer was impressed by the former Barcelona duo. £27 million (BBC) defender Mina didn’t give Sebastien Haller a look in, while £22 million (Evertonfc.com) Gomes bossed midfield.
He said of Mina: “This was a powerful display by the Everton defender. They needed a leader and he fitted the bill. He was dominant at the back and didn’t give Sebastien Haller a sniff for West Ham United.
“Everton barely gave the West Ham midfield a look-in and a big part of that was down to Gomes. He ran the centre of the park with his touch, technique and energy.”
TBR’s View – Duo have the class to take Everton to where they want to go
Much of Everton’s optimism in recent times has come from the calibre of players they have signed. They’ve got three from Barca; Lucas Digne was another hit last season, and Mina and Gomes add class down the spine of the side.
They just need to stay fit and do it on a consistent basis. Mina especially, given Everton’s lack of alternatives, must ensure he keeps himself up to standard or he will hand Marco Silva a headache.
