Alan Shearer identifies three signings Newcastle need to make in January window

Alan Shearer has told the Que Golazo podcast on CBS Sports that Newcastle United need to make three signings in the January transfer window.

The Toon’s new owners have been linked with a whole host of names, most notably including Ousmane Dembele, Marcelo Brozovic and more.

But instead of making big-name signings, the new owners might have to concentrate on bringing in players that can at least, keep Newcastle up.

Even before they think about potential January additions, Newcastle’s new owners need to appoint a manager – and a director of football.

Plenty of work to do for the club’s owners. But Toon legend Shearer has some advice, identifying the three areas that require strengthening.

“So three players without a doubt – a centre-half, a creative midfielder and a forward to put the ball in the back of the net,” Shearer told Que Golazo.

Shearer on January: Newcastle could do with a right-winger, too

But Shearer is right. If Newcastle are to make signings in January, a central midfielder is absolutely key. One that can create from the middle.

Another option at centre-back to go alongside Jamaal Lascelles is important, ahead of a fight against relegation. James Tarkowski would be solid.

Marcelo Brozovic of Inter Milan is being linked. He would certainly provide that creation from the middle of the park.

Callum Wilson does struggle to stay fit and having competition for him is needed. But a right-winger might just be as important, to feed him.
