Alan Shearer has issued a critical rant on Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford after his performance in the 3-2 defeat to Newcastle.
The 25-year-old had a match to forget after some individual errors and was fortunate to receive a red card too for a rugby tackle on Salomon Rondon.
His levels of performance have dipped considerably this season at Goodison Park and he’s not quite managed to replicate the form he showed for England in the 2018 World Cup.
Pundit Shearer has criticised the Toffees shot-stopper for his recent displays and believes he needs to start doing the basics better.
“I was at Newcastle to watch a very strange performance from England keeper Jordan Pickford. In fact, it was stupid at times,” Shearer wrote in the Sun.
“Basic saves he tries to make look spectacular. Everything seems to be an issue. He is not a kid any more. There comes a time when you’ve got to do the simple things right.
“Pickford should still be in the driving seat [for England position], but he’s not doing himself any favours.”

TBR’s View:
Pickford has had a mixed campaign for the Merseyside club and it’s true that the odd mistake has clouded over some excellent displays.
The commanding goalkeeper is still one of the key players at Everton moving forward and has shown his value on his day of being one of the best in the division.
He does appear to have a fresh confidence when he puts on an England shirt and the upcoming international break could give him a boost to kick on for the rest of the domestic campaign.
