'He's outstanding': Alan Shearer blown away by 'superb' £290,000-a-week Chelsea warrior

Alan Shearer has heaped praise on N’Golo Kante after he scored to help Chelsea beat Leicester City at the weekend.

The Premier League’s all-time leading goalscorer named the French midfielder in his Team of the Week.

Kante doesn’t score many. It was perhaps an indication that the law of sod is alive and well that he should get one against Leicester.

He helped the Foxes lift the Premier League title during the 2015/16 campaign against the odds and didn’t celebrate his strike at the weekend.

The 30-year-old has now scored twice this season with his other strike coming in a 3-0 win over Tottenham in September.

It wasn’t just his goal that caught the eye at the weekend. Shearer was delighted with his performance and picked him for his Team of the Week.

He told the Premier League website: “A superb goal topped off an outstanding midfield display.

“At the heart of everything good that Chelsea did. He won every tackle and covered every blade of grass.”

Kante will be in action once again tonight as Chelsea look to secure their place in the last 16 of the Champions League.

The 30-year-old finally looks set to kick on under Thomas Tuchel and Saturday’s performance was a joy to behold.

Integral: Kante still vital to Chelsea

There is nobody quite like Kante within the Chelsea ranks. With that in mind, he remains a vitally important part of Tuchel’s team.

Kante showcased exactly what he is good at during the weekend win and he’s got plenty left in the tank.

The £290,000-a-week star is energetic beyond belief and if he can add a few more goals he’d be borderline unstoppable.

Kante has enjoyed a stunning spell in England and Tuchel will hope he can lead the Blues to more silverware during 2021/22.
