Alan Shearer has included West Ham star Declan Rice in his Premier League team of the week after his most recent performance.
The Hammers secured an impressive 2-1 away win at Leeds United on Friday night and results over the weekend mean they currently sit sixth in the table.
David Moyes’ side go into Wednesday night’s home fixture against London rivals Crystal Palace in excellent form, winning four of their previous five league matches to help them shoot up the table.
West Ham have had a fairly settled XI recently, with Rice acting as the stand-in captain for Mark Noble.
The 21-year-old is an ever-present in the Hammers team playing every single league minute so far this season and he’s also a regular on the international stage with England.
Shearer has raved about the latest display from Rice:
“His running power and ability to get his team playing was again on show as his side fought-back to triumph at Leeds United,” Shearer said.
Aged 21, Rice is already a huge leader within the West Ham dressing room and it’s remarkable the kind of impact the youngster has at the London Stadium.
The defensive midfielder continues to get better with more experience and is so effective covering the back four, while offensively he’s also started to add more layers to his game with forward passes and driving runs in possession.
His combination alongside central midfielder Tomas Soucek is an excellent one and is providing the cornerstone for West Ham’s success this season.
