Both Alan Shearer and Gary Lineker have now shared their thoughts on young Manchester United star Kobbie Mainoo’s England debut.

Gareth Southgate decided to introduce Mainoo in the 75th minute, replacing Conor Gallagher in the middle.

Many had hoped that the 18-year-old may be placed straight into the eleven, a player who could potentially start for England at the Euros, but Southgate showed caution.

Although, it may become quite hard to resist the temptation to start Mainoo moving forwards, especially given how accomplished he looked in his brief cameo against Brazil.

It’ll certainly be interesting to see if Mainoo has now done enough to demand a start against Belgium tomorrow, a key opportunity for Southgate to test a new midfield combination.

That being said, both Alan Shearer and Gary Lineker have been sharing their honest verdicts on Mainoo’s England debut on ‘The Rest Is Football’ podcast.

The pair were both left blown away by the Man United youngster’s talent, who wasn’t fazed by the occasion whatsoever.

Alan Shearer and Gary Lineker thought Kobbie Mainoo was a natural for England

Speaking on the podcast, Shearer initially praised Mainoo’s attitude and composure.

He said: “He looked really comfortable, he just went on the pitch and his attitude was great.

“He just said give me the ball, let me show what I can do. He wasn’t fazed at all, looked really comfortable.”

Lineker then added: “There was one little bit where he just got the ball and turned and you thought ‘oh that’s class.’”

And it really is hard to disagree with either Shearer or Lineker, Mainoo really did look just as good for England as we all hoped.

It now looks like Southgate should seriously consider playing Mainoo behind Declan Rice and Jude Bellingham in Germany this summer.

Despite only playing 15 minutes or so for his country, Mainoo must surely have a place on the plane based on ability alone, a player already in contention to start.

Definitely one for Southgate to ponder, and fans will be hoping he makes a brave decision.

And away from England and Mainoo talk, one Arsenal youngster has recently confessed that a current Man United star is his idol.
