Alan Pardew says he knows £50m England star’s agent really wants his client to sign for Arsenal

Although Arsenal are close to finalising a deal for Mikel Merino, it still seems as if one piece of the puzzle is still missing for Mikel Arteta this summer.

The Gunners were impressive against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday, Alan Shearer loved Bukayo Saka’s Arsenal performance, there was nothing missing there.

But as the season goes on – will Arsenal still appear lacking in the goalscoring department?

Judging by his performance against Wolves, Kai Havertz is determined to prove otherwise.

Havertz was excellent throughout, and just as he did for Germany at the Euros, the 25-year-old looked increasingly like a ‘proper’ number nine.

The former Chelsea forward will always drop deep to link the play, but for his goal in particular, Havertz showed the guile that many pundits think Arsenal need up top.

To date, Havertz’s best tally in a Premier League season stands at 13 goals, which he achieved with Arsenal last term.

And if he spends the whole season up top this time around, that’s surely a record he’ll blitz.

Ivan Toney’s agent is really keen to take the striker to Arsenal this summer

In terms of adding further goals to Arteta’s front line, or just a different option entirely, Ivan Toney is often linked with Arsenal.

Toney was left out of Brentford’s squad during their win against Crystal Palace on Sunday, and it appears as if the 28-year-old will be leaving.

Toney has been heavily linked with a move to Saudi Arabia, however, when speaking on talkSPORT, former Premier League manager Alan Pardew shared some interesting insight.

Pardew claimed that Toney’s agent was hoping to take the England international to Arsenal, a move that would satisfy many of the club’s fans.

He shared: “Let me tell you. I know Toney’s agent personally, and I think he would like the boy to go to Arsenal. There you go. There’s a bit of insight.

“I know that he thought that might be a good fit for the boy when I had a discussion.”

Of course, it currently seems unlikely that Arsenal will pursue Toney or a striker at all this summer.

Gabriel Jesus is very capable back up for Havertz and Arsenal would better benefit from the addition of a wide-forward.
