Alan Pardew reacts to latest rumour he’s heard about Newcastle and Eddie Howe

Alan Pardew has given his verdict on speculation that Newcastle United owners, Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF), could move on from Eddie Howe.

The former Newcastle manager has sent a warning to Howe.

So, what has Alan Pardew said about Newcastle United and Eddie Howe? Let’s take a look.

What’s the story?

Well, Eddie Howe is doing a wonderful job at Newcastle United, who are playing in the UEFA Champions League this season and could finish in the Premier League top four.

However, there is speculation on the future of Howe. The Sun has noted that Xabi Alonso’s excellent work at Bayer Leverkusen will not go unnoticed by PIF.

The report has suggested that “there is every chance Newcastle will eventually look to move on from Eddie Howe” at some point in the future.

There is also speculation that Howe is the fourth favourite Premier League manager to get sacked.

Italian media has claimed that AS Roma manager Jose Mourinho is in the frame to replace Howe.

The rumours are not really that strong at the moment, and while former Newcastle manager Alan Pardew does not think that PIF will get rid of Howe now, he has noted that nothing is impossible in the world of football.

Former Tottenham Hotspur forward Alan Brazil said on talkSPORT (9:48 am, November 24, 2023): “You won’t believe this but in The Sun this morning they are reporting that Eddie Howe is under pressure leading up to January. Surely he is not under pressure, surely?”

Pardew replied: “I wouldn’t have thought so but as a Premier League manager you can never take anything for granted because the ownership is a force in itself, in terms of what their expectations are.

“They don’t take into account the history and everything else sometimes. But I think they have got good owners up there and I think that is probably just a bit of selling papers up in the north east. I think looking from where I am sitting Eddie is pretty sound, regardless of results.”

Brazil said: “I was going to say if he was to go and it all goes wrong in the next period of games, [who would come in]? De Zerbi or someone like that?

“There’s not too many people out there because January, who knows, are they going to spend big? They are going the right way Newcastle, so I hope you are right. I can’t believe that.”

Newcastle United should stick with Eddie Howe

In my opinion, Newcastle United should not sack Eddie Howe at any point this season. PIF need to understand how hard it is for the Magpies to end up in the Premier League top four again.

What Howe did last season was remarkable. Newcastle probably overachieved. Liverpool struggled and Chelsea were disastrous.

Liverpool are getting back to their best now, and Chelsea are also showing some very positive signs.

Even if Newcastle fail to end up in the top four, PIF have to stick with Howe, unless, of course, they get a genuinely world-class manager and get in top-quality players.
