Alan Hutton has explained that he’s seen a major improvement from Rangers captain James Tavernier this season when it comes to the defensive side of his game.
Tavernier, who earns £14,000-a-week, has been an instrumental figure in a Gers team that have officially won the league title this season, as second-placed Celtic can no long mathematically catch them.
The 29-year-old right-back has missed the last few games with a knee problem, but he’s been so important throughout.
His attacking contributions are rightfully marvelled over, scoring 17 goals and supplying 15 assists in 41 games across all competitions this campaign.
But the English full-back has improved defensively on top of that.
Hutton gave a special mention to Tavernier’s development when mentioning him as a contender for player of the season, before deciding on goalkeeper Allan McGregor.
“There were a lot of question marks over him (Tavernier) defensively. I think he’s really improved on that. His stats going forward have been incredible for a right-back,” Hutton told Football Pass.

TBR’s View:
Tavernier has enjoyed quite the rollercoaster ride since his move to Ibrox back in 2015, which has seen him end up with a league title and he’ll get to lift the crown.
It seems a long time ago, but he was often criticised by supporters during the early parts of his Rangers career and he’s now become a cult hero.
The right-back spends a lot of his time attacking in domestic games and it’s an obvious strength of his, but he’s been a part of formidable backline that has remarkably conceded just nine league goals all season so far.
