'Akin to what Granit Xhaka does': Arsenal talent lauded for 'incredible' U23s display on Friday
Arsenal midfielder Charlie Patino continues to go from strength to strength in the Gunners setup.
Patino is one of many Arsenal academy talents tipped for stardom in the coming years.
Gunners coaches reportedly rate the Hale End gem very highly – at 17 years old, he’s already looking a cut above in the Under-23s.
Indeed, Patino was tipped to feature against Wimbledon in the Carabao Cup.
And fans were disappointed to see him miss out on the matchday squad entirely.
Surely, a senior debut isn’t far away – and on Friday, he may have just given Mikel Arteta even more food for thought.
Arsenal ran out 3-0 winners over Brighton in Premier League 2 action at the Emirates Stadium.
Folarin Balogun netted a brace, while Salah Oulad M’Hand also got on the scoresheet.
Patino has drawn comparisons with the likes of Jack Wilshere, Cesc Fabregas and Santi Cazorla in the past.
However, the teenager played in a deeper role against the Seagulls – reminiscent of the currently-injured Granit Xhaka.
Football.london gave Patino the joint-highest rating in the game alongside Balogun, 8 out of 10.
“It’s easy to see why the 17-year-old is attracting such praise with performances like these,” they wrote.
“Has been compared to Jack Wilshere in the past but played a more withdrawn role on the night akin to what Granit Xhaka does for the first team.
“Some incredible long passes that show he has the vision, but now just needs the physicality to make the step up.”
Arsenal are in Premier League action on Saturday evening, away at Brighton.
