Ajax now want to sign wonderkid who left Tottenham in 2022

Tottenham fans should be seriously excited about the next generation of talent in N17.

Spurs have worked hard to recruit some of the best youngsters around, with Lucas Bergvall and Archie Gray recently joining the likes of Destiny Udogie and Micky van de Ven at Hotspur Way.

That is without mentioning Tottenham’s very own youth products, with the precocious Mikey Moore and Will Lankshear catching the eye in pre-season this summer.

However, there was a talent who slipped through the net at Tottenham in 2022 who is now being targeted by some of Europe’s biggest clubs…

Ajax want Jayden Meghoma after 2022 Tottenham exit

A story from Sky Sports now claims that Ajax want to sign Jayden Meghoma – who quit Tottenham back in 2022.

The 18-year-old decided to leave Spurs in search of a clearer pathway to senior football, ultimately settling on Southampton with Tottenham landing £1m in compensation, according to The Athletic.

Now, Meghoma is being targeted by Ajax – as well as Anderlecht, Basel and Red Bull Salzburg.

Sky Sports explain that the teenager has not received the first-team opportunities he was hoping for at Southampton, having made just four senior appearances since joining in 2022.

Meghoma’s situation has consequently alerted overseas clubs, who will be able to strike a pre-contract agreement with the left-back in January ahead of a free transfer in the summer of 2025, due to the fact he only has 12 months left on his deal.

Spurs could use a new left-back

After releasing Ryan Sessegnon and allowing Ivan Perisic to join Hajduk Split for free, Ange Postecoglou could do with another left-back in N17.

That is not to say Spurs should bring Meghoma back, although it is something worth exploring if a blocked pathway to senior football was the only thing causing the teenager to want out of Tottenham in 2022.

That pathway is no longer blocked after Sessegnon and Perisic departed, as Postecoglou has little depth behind Destiny Udogie on the left of defence.

Oliver Skipp was even being trained up as a left-back at the end of last season, highlighting the need for some extra depth in that area.

Therefore, as Ajax and more European giants look at Meghoma, Tottenham should at least consider his availability as an option.
