Ahmed Elmohamady has told Aston Villa they need to bring in a manager with experience, who is capable of dealing with the big occasion.
Dean Smith was sacked on Sunday after a run of five losses – the last of which saw Villa lose 1-0 to struggling Southampton on the south coast.
Villa’s poor form has seen them drop into a relegation battle at this early stage. Christian Purslow has decided to make a change now.
Steven Gerrard is the front runner. Late-night reports on Tuesday stated that luring him away from Rangers would cost Villa less than £3million.
Taking to Twitter, ex-Aston Villa defender Elmohamady – who has now retired – urged Purslow to hire a manager who can handle the pressure.
Elmohamady on next Villa manager: Sums up Gerrard, no?
Having taken over at Rangers in the summer of 2018, Gerrard is now in his fourth season as Gers gaffer – just seven games shy of managing 200 games.
In his 193, he has won a huge 125. Last season, Rangers went unbeaten to clinch the Scottish Premiership title – keeping calm under huge pressure.
That pressure emanated around the fact that Celtic were pursuing 10 in a row, a record in Scottish football. But Rangers stood tall to deny them.
Elmohamady wants experience, a man to handle the big occasion. Well, he has basically summed up Liverpool legend Gerrard in a nutshell.
