'Aguero replacement': Some Manchester City fans think 18-year-old is the next big thing

A number of Manchester City fans have taken to Twitter to laud Liam Delap’s latest sensational performance for the Citizens Under-23s.

The 18-year-old academy striker has been in sensational form this season, with a staggering 30 goals and six assists in 27 appearances at age and senior level.

Delap’s efforts have helped City win the Premier League 2 title this term. finishing 12 points ahead of second-placed Chelsea in the table.

The striking sensation scored his third hat-trick of the season on Friday afternoon as Enzo Maresca’s charges saw the season out with a 6-1 hammering of Tottenham Hotspur.

Delap opened the scoring midway through the first half, running on to a James McAtee through-ball before slotting underneath Thimothee Lo-Tutala.

He then doubled his tally a minute later, curling home from 10 yards out, before Cole Palmer got in on the action to make it three for the visitors.

Palmer capitalised on a mistake at the back for his second and City’s fourth, and Delap capped off his hat-trick with a superb strike from 18 yards out.

Although Dane Scarlett pulled a goal back for Spurs, Romeo Lavia got on the scoresheet to restore City’s five-goal lead.

And while every one of the City players and coaches can be pleased with their heroics this season, there was special praise for Delap.
