Pep Guardiola has now praised Liverpool target Bruno Guimaraes – amid reports Michael Edwards wants the Newcastle No.39 at Anfield.

The 53-year-old made the comments when speaking in his press conference on Friday.

So, what did Pep Guardiola say about Liverpool target Bruno Guimaraes? Let’s take a look…

Pep Guardiola heaps praise on Bruno Guimaraes

Well – according to AS – Liverpool are expected to make a move for the Brazil international this summer with Edwards now in place as CEO of Football at Anfield.

If the Reds do manage to secure a deal for Guimaraes – who Newcastle signed from Lyon for £40m in January 2022 – the move would seemingly come with Guardiola’s approval.

The Spaniard was quoted by Manchester City’s official website as saying: “An exceptional holding midfielder. Aggressive, with the ball, he has the pause, on set-pieces he’s aggressive. A real, real complete holding midfielder since playing in Lyon.”

Liverpool would move up a level

If Liverpool manage to sign Guimaraes this summer, it would be a real statement of intent.

Of course, Endo has become a firm fan favourite at Anfield following his £16m move from VfB Stuttgart in August 2023 – Micah Richards has been stunned by the Japan international’s effectiveness.

However, the Liverpool No.3 was never signed as a long-term option at the age of 31.

That much was evident through the fact Klopp tried to sign Romeo Lavia and Moises Caicedo – who are 20 and 22 respectively – before moving for Endo.

Guimaraes would represent a major upgrade, and even if Edwards isn’t planning to directly replace the Japanese stalwart with the Brazilian, Liverpool need a bit more depth in the central midfield department regardless.

Be sure to keep an eye on this situation heading into the summer, as Liverpool are expected to bid for the 26-year-old from Rio de Janeiro.
