Everton are reportedly set to make a move for Napoli midfielder Fabian Ruiz in the summer. As reported by Calcio Napoli 24, the Spanish international is wanted by a host of clubs, including Everton, with a potential asking price of £74 million recently doing the rounds in The Express.
Everton would undoubtedly love to sign Ruiz, who would be a game-changing option in the heart of their midfield. However, he would not come cheap and the likes of Liverpool, Barcelona and Real Madrid are also being linked.
So what might give Everton an advantage in their pursuit of Ruiz?
Carlo Ancelotti, in particular, would appear to be a big potential help in Everton’s attempts to sign the Spaniard.
Ancelotti was pivotal in Ruiz’s move to Napoli in 2018, as confirmed by the player’s agent Miguel Alfaro. As reported by Football Italia, it was the presence of Ancelotti that was key to Ruiz’s decision to swap Real Betis for the Partenopei that summer.
“Clearly a lot of big clubs wanted him, and even in Italy several clubs were following him.
“Then the desire of Ancelotti, [sporting director Cristiano] Giuntoli and [President Aurelio] De Laurentiis made the difference and we did the deal quickly.
“Once we put the player in contact with the boss we understood that Napoli was the right place to grow, but also to do important things in the league and advance in the Champions League.
“We’re talking about a coach who’s won in Italy, France, Spain, England and Germany.
“He was the perfect choice to replace Sarri because he is a Coach who is known everywhere. He decided to buy the lad and we thank him for that.”
Ancelotti went on to make Ruiz a key member of his first-team at the Stadio San Paolo and Everton fans will no doubt be hoping that he can once again prove pivotal in Ruiz’s decision making regarding a transfer when the current season finally reaches its conclusion.
He could be a key jigsaw piece in rebuilding Everton going forward and fans will hope Ruiz does make an eye-catching move to Goodison Park this summer.
