Aston Villa’s chances of landing Harold Moukoudi have been hit with a major blow after his agent revealed his client’s plans to remain in France, according to the Birmingham Mail.
Thierry Granturco said of his client: “He is now playing in the French second tier and his desire is to play in Ligue 1 for one season and then evaluate other options.”
Villa have reportedly been keen on Moukoudi since the summer transfer window and his dwindling contract situation had raised hopes that a deal could be done.
But given that there are clubs reportedly of the calibre of Borussia Dortmund and Napoli in the chase – and the player himself wants to stay in France anyway – Villa should abandon their chase and look elsewhere.

But Moukoudi looks beyond Villa now, and they should be focusing their energy closer to home, on players with Championship experience in order to get themselves into the top six by now.
Their financial situation would have made a swoop for Moukoudi a risk in any case, and Smith should not spend any more time or resources on trying to get the Le Havre man in through the door this month – it simply doesn’t look on the cards now.
