Agent suggests Celtic not a transfer option for Michal Karbowski

The agent of Polish full-back Michal Karbownik has dismissed suggestions that Celtic might be keen on the player.

The Daily Record reported at the weekend that Celtic have watched the 19-year-old Legia Warsaw talent play on two occasions this season and face a battle with Dynamo Moscow and Real Betis to secure his services.

The versatile full-back has also had interest from some other big European clubs. A recent report from Gol24 suggested that a move to Barcelona was on the cards before the global health crisis and that Legia are now looking for £3.2 million to sell the player.

The Mirror (26/04/20; pg 68) also recently reported £10 million interest from Tottenham Hotspur, so Celtic have fairly illustrious company in their battle to secure this Polish talent.

It seems the latter is the most likely scenario. The defender’s agent, Mariusz Piekarski, has been speaking to Sport.pl this week, as relayed by Meczyki, when he suggested that Celtic was not a likely destination, but that Karbownik was set for a move to one Europe’s five big leagues.

“There is no east (Russia) option. This is not the case. We focus only on the west and south. Celtic? I think there is no option either. There is interest, but we have other very interesting options to consider. Michał will probably go to one of the five best leagues in Europe.”

Unfortunately, despite Celtic’s obvious standing as a big club, the Scottish Premier League is not likely to be in that top five leagues in Europe group.

Instead of Celtic, it seems the Polish defender has his eyes on England, Spain, Italy, Germany, or France in the next step of his career. It is a shame for Celtic, but full-back is one of their stronger positions with Greg Taylor and Boli Bolingoli battling on the left and Jeremie Frimpong the revelation of this season on the right.

Money could be better spent elsewhere at Parkhead in the next transfer window.
