Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira‘s agent, Pablo Bentancur, has revealed that his client was asked to report to pre-season duty by the Gunners today.

The Uruguayan spent each of the last two seasons out on loan – first at Atletico Madrid in the 2020/21 campaign, and then in Italy with Fiorentina last term.

Torreira, branded as ‘incredible’ by Bernd Leno, was really impressive in Florence last season. Almost everybody expected Fiorentina to take up the option in his loan deal to make his move permanent, but the Italian outfit, surprisingly, decided against it.

Since then, Torreira’s future has been up in the air, and there may be a new twist in the tale now.

Agent says Arsenal have summoned Lucas Torreira for pre-season

Just 11 days ago, Torreira shed light on his Arsenal future and revealed that Mikel Arteta had told him there was no place for him at the Emirates. The Uruguayan then made it clear that there was no way he’d stay at the club beyond the end of the summer window.

Now, the midfielder’s agent has come out and suggested that Arteta may have completely changed his mind about his client, who could now well be in the Arsenal boss’ plans for the upcoming season.

Bentancur said, as quoted by SportItalia: “Torreira to Juve? He actually would like to stay and play in Italy.

“But today, Arsenal called him up for the tour they will do in America. So, he seems to be a part of the plan.”

Arsenal are in the market looking for a new central midfielder.

The likes of Youri Tielemans and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic have been heavily linked with a move to the Emirates over recent weeks, but neither deal has materialised just yet.

If Arsenal can’t bring in a new midfielder this summer, keeping hold of Torreira wouldn’t be a bad idea at all. The Uruguayan, when played in his natural number six role, is a terrific player – just remember his debut season in England.

However, it’s still very likely that Torreira will be sold this summer considering that he has entered the final year of his contract.
