Trabzonspor goalkeeper Ugurcan Cakir’s agent Engin Kirkpinar has told Turkish Football that Liverpool are interested in signing his client, but has ruled out any chance of a January move for the £18million-rated stopper.
Cakir, 23, has starred for Trabzonspor over the past couple of seasons. He has even broke into Turkey’s national team, clocking up two caps during 2019. His performances have caught the attention of those at Liverpool, and indeed the Premier League.
Liverpool do have a back-up goalkeeper in Adrian, after the Spaniard moved to Anfield on a free transfer from West Ham in the summer. Loris Karius is on loan at Trabzonspor’s rivals Besiktas, while Simon Mignolot left to join Club Brugge.
A new goalkeeper could be brought in by Jurgen Klopp, then, and Cakir’s agent has confirmed that Liverpool are keen – but are only one of four Premier League sides interested in the Turkish stopper. His agent did rule out a move in January, though.

“Liverpool are one of four English sides keeping close tabs on Ugurcan,” Kirkpinar said. “Liverpool are among the sides interested in Cakir and have been monitoring his progress.
“Trabzonspor value Cakir as being worth a minimum €20m (£18m) and will not sell him in January. An end of season move could however, be on the cards.”
TBR’s view – Do Liverpool really need Cakir?
Probably not. Adrian has signed a contract at Liverpool until the summer of 2021 and his performances in the absence of Alisson during the start of the season were second to none – and enough to earn him the status back-up goalkeeper.
So if Liverpool are to spend £18million on Cakir, surely getting rid of Adrian or waiting for his contract to finish first would make sense. Unless Liverpool are planning on making the ex-Hammer a third-choice stopper.
