With Newcastle United on the verge of a takeover, the Magpies are being been linked with plenty of players and coaches amid the prospect of St James’ Park having a huge budget going forward.

According to El Desmarque, Newcastle are one of several clubs to have made an offer for Real Valladolid defender Mohammed Salisu.

The 21-year-old has come through the ranks at the La Liga club and has enjoyed a superb breakthrough season, making 27 league appearances.

As well as Newcastle, Salisu has been linked with a host of other big European clubs including Manchester United, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid.

The Ghana international’s release clause is reportedly set at £10.4 million, a very modest price for such a talented young centre-back.

Furthermore, Juan Mata Sr – Salisu’s agent and the Manchester United midfielder’s father – thinks the upcoming transfer window will see his client make a move.

“Salisu is another very young African discovery. This year he has been a sensation in La Liga because at only 20 years old, 1.90m (6ft 2in), left-footed, and playing centre back in this division is not easy,” Mata told Vip Deportivo.

“The truth is that I think this may be his window [to leave], because interest has arisen from many clubs, and he deserves it.”

For a player of Salisu’s age, build and quality to have such a low reported release clause would constitute an absolute bargain, and Newcastle really should pursue this option.

However, it won’t be easy for the Magpies – when you have the likes of Manchester United, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid also said to be interested, they could make very convincing cases for a player to join them.

Could a Newcastle with huge financial muscle and an exciting project on the cards see off two of the most famous clubs in the world (United and Real) and two regular silverware challengers, domestically and in Europe (Atletico and Real)?
