Inter are eyeing a swap deal with Arsenal involving Christian Eriksen and Lucas Torreira – although the player’s agent has quashed the notion during an interview with FC Inter.
According to Tuttosport, the Italian giants were keen to the swap deal, if Torreria’s loan at Atletico Madrid was cancelled this month.
The 24-year-old left the Gunners in the summer to join Los Rojiblancos but the move hasn’t quite worked out.
Torreira has started just twice with a further five appearances coming from the bench.
There has been some suggestions that Arsenal could recall the midfielder and that has clearly alerted Inter.
Reports suggest they’d be keen to take Torreira and send Eriksen in the opposite direction.
There is no suggestion over whether the swap would be permanent or as a loan.
It does seem, however, as though the reports are wide of the mark.
Torreira’s agent has moved to quickly dismiss any potential talk of his current loan being ended.
He told FC Inter: “No contact with Inter for Torreira. I have not received any calls. Torreira is from Atletico, he is very well in Madrid and will not move in January.”
TBR View: Eriksen and Torreira swap would benefit Arsenal
From a Gunners point of view, it’s a shame the agent of Torreira has seemingly silenced the notion of a swap with Eriksen.
Although the Dane is older than Torreira he would represent a proven Premier League performer and could provide a much-needed creative spark.
The 28-year-old earns £128,000-a-week at the San Siro and enjoyed a successful period at Tottenham.
He scored 69 goals and registered 89 assists during his time in North London and Arsenal would relish that expertise.
Torreira has proved during his time at Arsenal that he’s not quite cut out for the Premier League.
With that in mind, a swap involving Eriksen would have been absolutely perfect for Arsenal.
Although the reported deal might not happen, the Gunners certainly shouldn’t be put off trying to land the 103-cap Danish star this month.
