Agent comments should spark Leeds United into January swoop on Jose Campana
Whilst Leeds United might have appeared to have had a decent transfer window there is no doubt the club were also on the hunt for a number eight they failed to get a hold of.
Michael Cuisance was all lined up to join the club from Bayern Munich before his medical had Leeds spooked. The plug was pulled and the deal was dead.
So Leeds are clearly still in need of a central midfield option, even if those at the club would suggest to you otherwise.
One name from the summer that might be worth revisiting is that of Levante midfielder Jose Campana.
Leeds were one of several clubs linked with the Spanish international over the summer.
El Desmarque stated Leeds were keen in September and that Elland Road director of football Victor Orta’s good working relationship with the player’s agent made a deal possible.
Plaza Deportivo later reported that despite all parties being keen on a deal, Leeds were not willing to meet the 27-year-old’s £27.5 million asking price. El Desmarque later claimed Leeds went as high as £16 million for the former Crystal Palace man but that was well short of the going rate.
But this week, the player’s agent has made it clear that a Levante exit is on the cards.
“In the future I believe that several opportunities may open up, both in La Liga and abroad,” Juanma Lopez, the player’s agent, told Macho Levante this week.
In the same piece, the Spanish club’s president, Quico Catalan, confirmed that Campana will be allowed to leave but only when the ‘circumstances arise’ for him to move on.
Leeds should therefore be willing to revisit their interest in the Spanish international who could prove a vital member of their team going forward.
With the negotiation table clearly open at the right price and at the right time, Leeds should do everything in their power to see if they meet both prerequisites in January.
