Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira will be undergoing a medical today ahead of a loan move to Atletico Madrid, agent Pablo Bentancur is quoted by Inside Futbol as saying.

The Gunners man has been linked with a departure from the Emirates Stadium for a number of months, with speculation increasing ahead of Monday’s transfer window deadline.

On Friday, Spanish outlet Diario AS claimed that Torreira was all-but set for Atletico, and was set to travel to the Spanish capital overnight for a medical ahead of a loan switch.

The £75,000-a-week man is believed to be joining on an initial loan deal with the La Liga side having option to make the move permanent.

Arsenal, meanwhile, are reportedly expecting to get 20m Euros (around £18m) for Torreira – if not this year, then next summer.

On Friday night, Bentancur was asked by Inside Futbol whether Roma were out of the race for Torreira, and he replied: “Yes, Roma is out. Now Atletico. Yes, tomorrow medical visits.”

Torreira hasn’t done badly for Arsenal over the past two years but he hasn’t quite managed to seal a first-team place under Arteta.

The Spaniard is said to be on the lookout for new midfielders – Thomas Partey and Houssem Aouar two of the players most heavily linked with the Gunners in recent weeks.

Getting Torreira off the wage bill and potentially recouping some money for his transfer would go a long way to raising funds for a late new arrival in the centre of the park.
