A player linked with Merseyside rivals Liverpool and Everton has been the subject of enquiries from “very important clubs”, according to the player’s agent.
However, several other big clubs, including Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Manchester United, are said to be keen on the Spain international, according to The Express.
The 23-year-old joined the Serie A side in the summer of 2018 from Real Betis on a five-year deal for a reported €30million (£27million), his buyout clause.
The playmaker has been touted to potentially leave Napoli in the transfer window, and his agent, Alvaro Torres, admits he has kept contract talks on hold amid a tough campaign for the Partenopei.
“There have been many changes in the club this season, it’s been a difficult year for Napoli,” Torres is quoted by the Daily Star as saying.
“A renewal? We have set aside negotiations for a while, until the end of the season.
“There are very important clubs that have asked for information, and we have already informed Napoli.
“There is no release clause in his current contract. I really don’t know what Ruiz’s value is at present.”
Ruiz is a high-calibre player with impressive vision, passing, ball control and dribbling skills, as well as versatility across midfield, and as such it’s little surprise that he’s being linked with some top clubs.
Both Liverpool and Everton will surely fancy their chances of claiming his signature – the Reds are one of the strongest teams in world football right now, while the Toffees have Ancelotti in the dugout, a coach Ruiz is extremely fond of.
In terms of how much he could cost, The Express believe Liverpool are lining up a £74million move.
Calcio Napoli 24, meanwhile, speaks of the club wanting a €100million (£92million) release clause in the new contract that is reportedly being discussed, while the player’s camp is after a release clause of no more than €80million (£73.5million).
