After snubbing Tottenham and Leeds, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia is shining in the Champions League
The 21-year-old has been a wanted man over the last year. Leeds and Spurs were both keen to bring him in, but he chose to sign for Napoli instead.
After his performance against Liverpool in the Champions League last night, we’re sure he’s happy with his decision to move to Naples instead of North London or West Yorkshire.
Gary Lineker praises Tottenham and Leeds target Khvicha Kvaratskhelia
Kvaratskhelia’s Napoli faced Liverpool at the Estadio Diego Armando Maradona last night, and Jurgen Klopp’s men were utterly humiliated.
Liverpool lost 4-1 in Naples and it could easily have been six or seven. The Reds were really poor yesterday, but if your focus was on Napoli, Kvaratskhelia would’ve definitely caught your eye.
Although the Georgian was only on the pitch for 57 minutes and didn’t manage to score a goal, he impressed everyone. Even Gary Lineker was blown away by his display, and the Englishman praised him on Twitter.
“Napoli’s Khvicha Kvaratskhelia is an exciting young player,” Lineker tweeted.
“Saw him against Lazio at the weekend and he was superb. He’s as difficult to play against as it is to spell his name correctly.”
Kvaratskhelia has scored four goals and provided two assists in just six appearances for Napoli since his move this summer.
Kvaratskhelia snubbed Tottenham and Leeds
Kvaratskhelia was linked with a whole host of clubs this summer, but none more than Leeds United and Tottenham in the Premier League.
In an interview last year, the forward publicly revealed he was in discussions to join Leeds United. He was linked with the Whites again at the end of March this year, but he decided against the move.
Kvaratskhelia’s agent, Mamuka Dzhugeli, then revealed that his client snubbed a move to Spurs too. “After Paratici left for Tottenham, they wanted to sign Kvicha on loan but we did not agree. The player himself was against the loan,” he said just over two months ago.
Tottenham and Leeds’ loss is now proving to be Napoli’s gain, and Kvaratskhelia, who’s still only 21, will only get better in the coming years.
