After robbing them of Romelu Lukaku, could Manchester United poach Tiemoue Bakayoko from under Chelsea’s nose?

After one transfer shock has already neared completion with Romelu Lukaku evading Chelsea to instead join Manchester United, it could be set to happen all over again with Monaco midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko, according to the Daily Star.

They report that the Red Devils have agreed a £35 million deal with the Ligue Un club for the Frenchman, who had been close to joining the Blues.

What’s happened with Chelsea?

Chelsea are thought to have held up the move ironically because of a connection with the humiliation of missing out on Romelu Lukaku. The Blues became reluctant to allow their midfielder Nemanja Matic to join the Red Devils, who were the only club to match the £40 million asking price.

However, they have agreed a deal with Monaco for the 22-year-old and have been pushing on with completing a deal, with the recent hold up only thought to have been a minor complication until the latest news.

Would United want to sign the Monaco star?

Certainly, especially if Chelsea are preparing to pull out of a deal for Nemanja Matic. Jose Mourinho is clearly set out to bring in a central midfielder to play alongside Ander Herrera in the middle of the park.

Bakayoko would bring some much needed youth and dynamism into the United team, with his energy and drive from deep likely to be the perfect match for Paul Pogba’s creativity alongside or slightly in front of him.

Who will get their man?

Bakayoko’s future is clearly up in the air, but Chelsea’s stalling on a deal is unlikely to have helped their cause. Given the promise of almost certainly walking straight into the Chelsea first team, that could make the difference compared to the opportunity to compete with Marouane Fellaini, Ander Herrera and Michael Carrick.
