One of the more bizarre transfer rumours at Everton in the summer surrounded the potential signing of Bordeaux wing-sensation Malcom.
As reported by Sky Sports, Everton were set to discuss a £30m deal plus add-ons with Bordeaux chairman Stephane Martin in July. A deal worth £80k-a-week was set to be discussed. Considering the calibre of teams the Brazilian had been linked with, such as Tottenham Hotspur and Roma, it was a coup in the offing.
However, the next morning, the Liverpool Echo made it clear that there was no bid and no interest in a bid from Everton for Malcom. Instead, they continued a successful pursuit of compatriot Richarlison from Watford.
But whilst Everton may not have made a move in the summer, should they consider it in January?

Malcom did eventually move in the summer. He headed to Barcelona, the Catalan side hijacking AS Roma’s seemingly done deal to sign the player.
But the 21-year-old has played just 25 minutes of football for the club so far. In fact, he has been left out of the squad for Barcelona’s last three games.
Everton, meanwhile, have developed a good relationship with Barcelona. They signed both Yerry Mina and Andre Gomes from the club in the summer.
Everton could still use perhaps one more attacking option, especially from the right-hand side that Malcom prefers to operate. If Barcelona are looking to send Malcom out for regular game time come January, Everton will surely be one team at the top of their list.
