Ever since former Fulham loanee Matt Targett departed the club this summer, Whites supporters have been yearning for the Englishman to leave Southampton for SW6.
Yet when Targett visited Craven Cottage this weekend with Southampton, the defender produced a mediocre display that will surely make Fulham less keen on purchasing him in January.
The left back joined Fulham on loan for the second half of the 17/18 season and enjoyed remarkable success as an integral member of the promotion-winning team.
Targett’s excellent crossing, diligent defending, and composed style of play delighted the Fulham faithful and contributed to the Cottagers’ resolute defence.

However, the Southampton left back was far from his best on Saturday as his side conceded three goals to Fulham.
Andre Schurrle exposed Targett’s weak marking and tapped home unimpeded at the back post for Fulham’s second goal, and Cyrus Christie’s cross that led to the winner came from Targett’s side of the pitch.
Although Targett did inspire his club’s opening strike with a quick throw-in, his performance was altogether disappointing.
Despite Fulham’s fondness for one of their promotion heroes, it appears as if a January move for Matt Targett would be a misguided investment.
