After Liam Delap and Jamie Gittens, Chelsea should embarrass Man City again with £35m signing

With Liam Delap already on board, Chelsea are lining up a deal to sign another former Manchester City player in Jamie Gittens.

Chelsea have agreed personal terms with Jamie Gittens and once a fee is agreed, Enzo Maresca is hoping to have the Englishman available for the Club World Cup.

Liam Delap will be wearing Chelsea colours at the tournament and fans tuning in will also now hope to get their first glimpse of Jamie Gittens in blue.

Of course, Gittens did wear blue for Man City in the past as mentioned, as he did for Chelsea at an even younger age.

And on the topic of Maresca’s side making haste in signing players City perhaps let go too early, they should now turn their attention to another young England talent.

Burnley’s James Trafford can end Chelsea’s goalkeeping woes

As Chelsea assemble their squad for the new season, one that is looking increasingly impressive, they should consider a move for Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford.

In terms of Maresca’s starting eleven next season, all looks well set aside from the number one spot.

Neither Robert Sanchez nor Filip Jorgensen did enough to win the starting role last season, and perhaps neither are good enough for a club with Chelsea’s aspirations.

But amid news of Chelsea’s interest in Mike Maignan at AC Milan, they should perhaps target a young and upcoming goalkeeper closer to home.

Trafford was outstanding for Burnley in the Championship last season, a keeper who only conceded 15 goals in 45 league games.

And amid Newcastle’s interest in Trafford, Chelsea should actually be making their own bid for a goalkeeper with a price tag of around £35m, one that City might regret selling.

Thomas Tuchel has clearly been impressed with James Trafford

By this point, Chelsea fans could be forgiven for wanting their side to recruit one or two more experienced players to play alongside their excellent young talent.

But in Trafford they would be getting the best of both worlds, he’s very young in goalkeeper terms at 22-years-old, but he’s also got a lot of experience already, a player who is often involved in the England set-up.

Former Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel continues to include Trafford in his squad ahead of the likes of Aaron Ramsdale.

And Chelsea should sign Trafford to be their number one — a player who could put an end to the disruption caused by Maresca swapping around the gloves.

Trafford has played with Delap in various age categories for Man City, as well as the pair teaming up for England U21s.

Chelsea’s recruitment won’t be a success this summer unless they buy a new firm number one, and whilst Maignan is a solid choice himself, Trafford perfectly fits the club’s transfer strategy moving forward.
