Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has admitted that he tried to sign Jadon Sancho from Manchester City in 2017 before he moved to Borussia Dortmund, Sky Sports News reports.
Klopp said: “We saw him, we liked him and then we think ‘can we get him?’ No. Because English clubs don’t sell them to other English clubs.”
Sancho has since taken Germany by storm and is a regular starter for the Bundesliga leaders, despite being just 18-years-old.
The talented teenager also has three senior England caps under his belt already and is one of the world’s hottest talents.
Liverpool could have had Sancho in their first-team now if they had somehow managed to convince Man City to sell him to a title rival.
Meanwhile, a similar situation is brewing down in West London with Chelsea’s Callum Hudson-Odoi.

Seemingly unhappy with his lack of playing time, Hudson-Odoi is a target for Bayern Munich (Sky Sports News), while Liverpool have also been linked (Metro).
After missing out on Sancho, Liverpool must go all out to ensure they do not let Hudson-Odoi slip through their fingers too.
The 18-year-old winger or striker is one of the country’s best young players and Chelsea are desperate to keep him.
But Klopp needs to offer the England under-19 star a clear route to the first-team to try to beat Bayern Munich to his signature.
Signing Hudson-Odoi could make up for missing out on Sancho two years ago.
