There were plenty of youngsters to be drafted into Mauricio Pochettino’s pre-season squad but one of those who really caught the eye was winger Anthony Georgiou, who featured against both Roma and Barcelona.
The 21-year-old is already a Cyprus international and has made his first team debut as a substitute against APOEL Nicosia in the Champions League and made the bench in last season’s FA Cup.
On Monday, he returned to action after an injury had sidelined him since August and got 25 minutes under his belt in a 2-1 win over Wolfsburg in the Premier League International Cup.
At 21-years-old and entering into the final 18 months of his contract, it could be now or never for the youngster, who needs to prove a point and could stand to benefit the most from an FA Cup visit to Tranmere Rovers or Stockport County.
Georgiou has seen even younger players like Jack Roles overtake him in the pecking order and edge nearer the first team. Now, he must prove his point with an immediate impact after his comeback.
A failure to do this season could easily see him looking for a new club next summer and looking to rebuild his career from scratch.
