In one of the more bizarre transfers this summer, Stoke City snapped up Benik Afobe from Wolverhampton Wanderers. He joined on a loan deal until January, when a compulsory £12 million buying option will be triggered, according to the Independent.
The deal was odd, as the striker only joined Wolves 11 days earlier.
The 25-year-old spent the second half of the Championship season on loan at his former club from Bournemouth. They triggered an optional £10 million clause to sign him up permanently, but less than a fortnight later he was off to the Potters.
It was a deal which Afobe later slammed in an interview with The Sun. He called Wolves ‘disrespectful’ and claimed the deal had caused ‘embarrasment’.

So, are Wolves regretting the decision?
Two games into the Championship season they might have been. Afobe bagged a goal in each of his first two games for Gary Rowett’s men.
But since then, Wolves can rest easy.
Afobe scored two goals against Sheffield Wednesday last month but that is it in the Championship. He has failed to score in his last five appearances for Stoke and a record of four goals in 12 league games is hardly enough to have Wolves repenting.
The fact Nuno Espirito Santo’s side are currently seventh in the Premier League will also help.
By the end of the season, Afobe might have 20 goals, whilst Leo Bonatini sits on zero in the Premier League. But right now, Wolves fans will be fairly confident they made the right call regarding Afobe.
