Crystal Palace are close to making their second signing of the summer, having already lured Walter Benitez to Selhurst Park.
The Eagles have agreed a fee of just £2m to sign Borna Sosa from Ajax, with the Croatia international now set for a medical after shaking hands on personal terms.
That move surely suggests Crystal Palace will not be signing Ben Chilwell on a permanent basis, after his loan from Chelsea expired.
Before Sosa has even been announced, Crystal Palace are already working on a third summer transfer, with Davide Calabria in sight.
Crystal Palace want Davide Calabria
Gianluca Di Marzio now states that the south Londoners are pushing to sign the Italy international on a free transfer after his contract with AC Milan expired.
Celta Vigo, Real Betis and Mallorca are also keen on signing Calabria, who plays as a right-back, but the Italian journalist states that Crystal Palace are leading the race, and are advancing in talks.
Oliver Glasner has lost Joel Ward after the veteran’s contract expired, and with 34-year-old Nathaniel Clyne the only option behind Daniel Munoz in the right-back department, along with the inexperienced Caleb Kporha, that area has clearly been marked as one in need of a fresh face.
Calabria – who actually became embroiled in a scrap with his manager Sergio Conceicao on the San Siro pitch last season – would bring plenty of experience to Selhurst Park if a deal materialises, having made seven appearances for Italy, and 272 appearances for AC Milan.
21 and 15 of these outings have come in the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League respectively, so if Crystal Palace are allowed to partake in the latter competition next season, his experience would surely help Glasner out.
Davide Calabria would become just the sixth Italian to play for Crystal Palace
If Calabria does sign for Crystal Palace – who could lose Eberechi Eze – he would join an exclusive club.
As of now, only five Italians have ever represented Crystal Palace, with Attilio Lombardo the most famous of the group.
In addition to the man Crystal Palace fans called the bald eagle, Nicola Ventola, Patrizio Billio, Michele Padovano and Ivano Bonetti make up the rest of the list.
