Mikel Arteta will already be scouring the market for players ha can add to his beleaguered Arsenal side in the January transfer window after taking over on Sunday – and the Spaniard could be about to pull off a midfield masterstroke.
French outlet Foot Mercato have claimed Arsenal are considering a move to save 24-year-old Adrien Rabiot from his Juventus nightmare. The France international has played just 12 times since joining on a free from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer.
Though tall, Rabiot is renowned for his excellent ability to anchor a midfield – giving license to more attacking players to get forward. He boasts aerial ability, inch-perfect passing and a footballing intelligence that allows him to read the game quickly.

He is also a serial winner, helping PSG 18 trophies over the last five seasons. The Gunners need a new midfielder, especially with Granit Xhaka looking set to return to Germany – with Bundesloga side Hertha Berlin, managed by Jurgen Klinsmann.
German outlet Fussball Transfers have confirmed that Xhaka has agreed personal terms with Hertha, ahead of a move in the January transfer window. It leaves Arsenal with the need for a new central midfielder.
If Arteta manages to pull off what would be somewhat of a coup in the form of Rabiot, he would be performing stunning business by letting an under-par, out-of-form Xhaka leave the club – and bringing in a much better replacement.
Certainly, it would instantly win over fans if Arteta swapped £35million signing (Mail) Xhaka for Rabiot.
