Liverpool goalkeeper Adrian says he has been doing extra training over the international break to get himself fully fit, having missed pre-season.
As per Liverpool’s official website, the Spaniard has lifted the lid on the work he’s been doing to get himself up to standard.
He said: “I had no pre-season with the team so I needed a few more training [sessions] to keep fit. Also, I had a small injury in my ankle after the Super Cup so I needed to recover well and be ready for September, which is really busy for us.
“It was great. It was very important to have a few training [sessions] to feel 100 per cent fit. It’s training with a different mind, more relaxed with the goalkeeper coach talking about goalkeeping positions and our philosophy with the style of play.”
TBR’s View – Adrian has done well considering he was dropped in at the deep end, should improve further now
It’s hardly surprising that Adrian wasn’t fully fit, having been parachuted into Anfield when Simon Mignolet left the club and then pressed into action far earlier than anyone expected due to Alisson’s injury.
He has used the international break to his advantage and Liverpool fans will hope that he continues to look more and more comfortable in his new surroundings.
It’s imperative that Liverpool maintain their hot form to keep Manchester City under pressure and Adrian cannot afford to be a weak link in the early weeks of the season.
