Ademola Lookman’s Everton struggles show why he desperately needed summer exit

Having scored five goals and set up a further four in just 11 games whilst on loan at Red Bull Leipzig, Ademola Lookman may easily have been forgiven for believing that he would be playing regular first team football by October 2018.

The 20-year-old was wanted on a permanent by his loan club in the summer, say BBC Sport, but Everton turned down the approaches despite his desire to make the move.

Yet, even despite all of that, he is struggling for game time at Goodison Park. Two months into the season, he has played just 46 minutes of Premier League football.

The former Charlton man is yet to start a league fixture and was hauled off on the hour mark in his only start of the season, up against Southampton in the Carabao Cup.

Against Leicester City, Lookman was left as an unused substitute for the third game in a row and the fourth time this season.

It is becoming increasingly clear that Marco Silva is not counting on Lookman as a regular within the team, but it does make it all the more bewildering that summer bids were turned away.
