Aston Villa picked up another well-earned win in the Premier League yesterday. A virtuoso performance from captain Jack Grealish proved key. He slid home an equaliser against Brighton before setting up Matt Targett to score a late winner at Villa Park.
But it seemed that a player who could have easily been lining up for Aston Villa yesterday might be causing them hurt yesterday.
Adam Webster scored the opening goal with a well-placed header, his first goal for the Seagulls since joining in a reported (The Sun) £22 million deal from Bristol City in the summer.

But he was a major target for Aston Villa as well. As reported by Bristol Post in June, Aston Villa were ‘increasingly confident’ that they would win the race to sign Webster in the summer.
The report claimed that the Championship side wanted £30 million for the player, with Aston Villa having a £12 million offer rejected earlier in the summer. However, a compromise had reportedly been found in the £20-£25 million region.
In the end, the move never happened. Aston Villa brought in Tyrone Mings permanently whilst also spending less to bring in both Bjorn Engels and Ezri Konsa instead.
Based on yesterday’s display, Aston Villa would have no doubt been onto a winner with the signing of Webster. However, overall, they did better business considering his price-tag. But it is still a positive that Aston Villa had such an impressive player on their radar in the summer.
