Liverpool are reportedly keen on the signature of Lazio star Adam Marusic. The Italian source Calciomercato is reporting that the Reds are hopeful of signing the Montenegro international. The player is said to be valued at around £17.7 million (TEAMtalk) and has been in fine form since joining the club from KV Oostende.

Liverpool are said to be battling Borussia Dortmund for his services.

Marusic plays regularly as a right wing-back for the Rome club, but can operate as a right-back or on the right-hand side of midfield.

His arrival would, however, surely end the Liverpool career of Nathaniel Clyne.

Clyne was a regular under former manager Brendan Rodgers and was, at first, under Jurgen Klopp.

However, the emergence of Trent Alexander-Arnold and a series of injury problems saw Cylen slip down the pecking order at Anfield.

Now he finds himself below Alexander-Arnold and Joe Gomez in the right-back pecking order, with James Milner and Fabinho also rivals for the position.

Marusic’s arrival would surely put an end to the 14-cap England international’s time on Merseyside.

He would quickly operate as the main back-up to Liverpool’s current England star and Clyne would simply have to find another club to find regular football.
