Adam Lallana’s previous comments suggest Tottenham Hotspur move is unlikely

The England international was sticking up for his former club team-mate Luke Shaw.

Tottenham Hotspur are continuing to be linked with a move for Liverpool midfielder Adam Lallana. As reported by The Mirror, Tottenham remain keen on the England international, who will become a free agent at the end of the Premier League season.

Whilst Leicester City are still considered the favourites to sign the £110,000-a-week (Liverpool ECHO) player, Tottenham are set to be restricted to free transfer additions this term which might see them have to consider a move for the former Southampton star.

However, it might be difficult for Jose Mourinho to lure Lallana to the club, considering his previous criticism of the Portuguese boss.

It was heavily reported in November 2016 that Lallana had slammed the then Manchester United boss regarding his treatment of former St Mary’s team-mate Luke Shaw.

At the time, Mourinho had appeared to question the commitment of Shaw, who was struggling with niggling injury and fitness problems at Old Trafford.

But speaking to the Daily Star, Lallana seemingly hit back at Mourinho, praising the fortitude of his old south-coast pal.

“I was with Luke at Southampton. He’s a very strong boy. He’s had a horrific leg injury. You don’t come back from that without being mentally and physically strong.

“You don’t come back from a leg break like he had without having difficult times mentally on your own.”

Tottenham’s interest in Lallana does not seem to be strong, Instead, it would appear they are almost being linked out of habit, considering his free-agent status and the reduced transfer capacity at the club this season.

But even if Spurs are genuinely keen on the player, it appears they would struggle to talk Lallana around into a Tottenham move.
