Adam Forshaw critical of Leeds finishing, but remains extremely upbeat

Leeds United midfielder Adam Forshaw was frustrated after watching his side’s finishing against Derby County last weekend.

The 27-year-old had to watch on from the sidelines for a second consecutive game with injury, as the Whites were held to a 1-1 draw against Derby despite dominating the Championship fixture.

A barrage of wasted chances meant the visitors could snatch a point in stoppage time at Elland Road and it means Marcelo Bielsa’s side only sit top of the league on goal difference.

The Yorkshire giants have 17 points from their opening eight league games, but it could have been more if they had been more ruthless.

Forshaw has been an ever-present in the team when fit and he’s admitted he is hoping to be available at the weekend for the trip to Charlton Athletic.

The central midfielder was also upbeat about the team’s performances this late, despite the obvious flaw against Derby.

“I was as frustrated as anyone watching on Saturday [against Derby] but the performance was excellent, especially in the first-half and probably the first 20 minutes of the second-half,” Forshaw said, as quoted by the Yorkshire Evening Post.

“I couldn’t really fault much apart from taking chances. The performances are there, every single game this season I’ve been impressed with us.”

TBR’s View:

Forshaw is spot on that Leeds impressed for large spells against Derby, but ultimately they need goals if they want to achieve the aim of promotion.

With Patrick Bamford getting the nod in the early stages of the season, it’s perhaps time for promising loanee Eddie Nketiah to be thrown into the mix and the competition should do both strikers the world of good.

Leeds are bound to make numerous changes most games considering the creators in their squad, so clinical striker Nketiah would be a great option to spearhead the attack.

It’s been a good start for Bielsa’s side regardless of the dropped points against Derby and they can send out another statement to the division if they win away at Charlton at the weekend.
