Adam Forshaw and Leeds fans rave about one Whites star, after Tuesday display
Adam Forshaw and Leeds United fans have taken to social media to praise Illan Meslier on Tuesday night, after the Whites beat Fulham on penalties.
Leeds came into the match with a much-weakened group of players. Injuries and a suspension to Pascal Struijk made the tie a tricky one.
With Luke Ayling, Robin Koch, Diego Llorente and Struijk all out – and Liam Cooper rested – Bielsa partnered Charlie Cresswell with Kalvin Phillips.
Meanwhile, Jamie Shackleton played at right-back, and Patrick Bamford’s absence saw Tyler Roberts start up top. But Meslier was the difference.
The French goalkeeper kept his second clean sheet of the night against promotion hopefuls Fulham, before shining in the penalty shootout.
Indeed, he saved efforts from Joe Bryan and Rodrigo Muniz – while Josh Onomah hit the bar. Adam Forshaw missed, and he thanked Meslier.
What have Leeds fans said about Meslier, after Forshaw comment?
Forshaw was not the only one to praise Meslier. The French goalkeeper was excellent throughout, not just the shootout, denying Fulham time after time.
Leeds relied on him. His importance to the side is growing with every match and at the age of just 21, he is part of the heartbeat of Bielsa’s Leeds.
On the horizon for Meslier, well, it could be anything. A senior France call-up is surely close. Clubs are likely to be tracking his monumental progress.
Leeds fans love their goalkeeper – who cost just £5million little over 12 months ago. Plenty of Leeds fans joined Forshaw in applauding Meslier.
