Adam Clayton lauded Leeds United on Twitter as the Whites celebrated their promotion to the Premier League, with their former midfielder urging the club to stick by Patrick Bamford at the highest level.
Marcelo Bielsa’s side got their hands on the Championship trophy on Wednesday night having secured promotion and the title over the weekend.
Ultimately, they finished 10 points clear of their closest rival having won all of their final six games.
It would be little surprise to see Bielsa keep faith with many of the players who got Leeds across the line.
While the promotion race was still in the balance, Bielsa rarely made changes to his lineup unless his hand was forced.
That allowed Bamford to silence a lot of his doubters as the campaign went on. The striker ended the season with 16 league goals.
Leeds fans will still be hoping to see the club’s attacking options strengthened this summer following the loan spells of Eddie Nketiah and Jean-Kevin Augustin.
But Clayton backed the 26-year-old to make a big impact in the Premier League, and urged the Whites to hand his former Middlesbrough teammate a chance next term.
Here is Clayton’s response to a tweet asking him about Leeds’s season…
