Robbie Mustoe believes that Kai Havertz may have actually had his best game for Arsenal on Tuesday in their win over Luton, suggesting that he may now be finding a groove with the Gunners.
Mustoe was speaking on The 2 Robbies podcast after Mikel Arteta’s side briefly extended their lead at the top of the Premier League table, with Declan Rice scoring a 97th minute winner at Kenilworth Road.
Kai Havertz was one of those who scored for the Gunners against the Hatters. The Germany international capitalised on a good piece of work from Gabriel Jesus to make the score 3-3 in the second-half.
Kai Havertz may have had his best game for Arsenal this week
A lot has been said about Havertz’s start to life at Arsenal. There was a lot of surprise when Arteta pursued a deal for the attacking midfielder off the back of his underwhelming time at Chelsea.

And in truth, Havertz was extremely quiet in the opening weeks of the season. But he has started to silence his doubters in more recent times, with his goal against Luton proving to be his third in his last four appearances in all competitions.
Some may feel that Havertz was not particularly involved in the large part of the game against Luton. However, Robbie Mustoe believes that the 24-year-old may have now turned a corner at the Emirates.
“To be fair, this was maybe one of his best games actually, in terms of getting forward. That’s where he’s going to be at his best. He’s going to be at his best as an attacking number eight. To be fair to the manager, he told us personally, that’s why he was bought,” he told The 2 Robbies.
“He didn’t start great, but now, maybe he can find a bit of a groove, a bit of a rhythm, a bit of consistent scoring. Maybe the expectations were that Kai Havertz was going to go there and light it up and be a player that we never saw at Chelsea. We haven’t seen that.
“But maybe there’s a player in there, even though it’s quite a big fee, that he can chip in with some goals, and maybe he won’t always be in the first XI. But credit again, he’s got another goal, he’s in a good spot, he’s playing in and around the striker, which is good.”
Supporters rewarded for their faith in summer signing
In fairness to the Arsenal fans, they have been incredibly patient with Havertz. And his penalty against Bournemouth felt like an important show of unity amongst everyone associated with the club.
You can understand why some were perplexed by the deal. Havertz spent his time at Chelsea largely searching for his best role. And it did not appear that he ever worked it out.
Arteta has got some good performances out of Havertz now. And the pressure appears to be off him slightly because his teammates are playing so well.
Some pundits probably cannot wait for Havertz to struggle again. But even his biggest critics cannot deny that he has been much more impressive lately.
