Former Celtic defender Erik Sviatchenko has been refuting suggestions that Brendan Rodgers did not like him during his tenure at Parkhead.

The Danish defender remains a popular figure at Celtic despite leaving the club to return to former team FC Midtjylland in 2018.

The 6ft 1ins defender was signed in 2016 by Ronny Deila and was immediately thrust into the Celtic starting XI.

It was Rodgers that let the Dane go in January 2018, after two years in Glasgow.

So it was suggested by some Celtic fans on Twitter this week that their former boss, who left a sour taste in the mouth of many Celtic fans when leaving for Leicester City in February 2019.

But Sviatchenko made it clear that was not the case.

The 28-year-old rightly pointed out that he played 43 times in the 2016-17 season for Celtic. He then pointed out that after two Champions League qualifying clashes against Linfield and Rosenborg, Sviatchenko suffered a knee injury and lost his place in the first-team to the likes of Jozo Simunovic, Dedryck Boyata, Kristoffer Ajer, and Jack Hendry.

Clearly, despite some Celtic fans wanting to pin the blame on Rodgers, Sviatchenko is happy with the way he was treated at Parkhead and has no hard feelings for the way he left the club.
