AC Milan are reportedly interested in signing Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka ahead of the January transfer window with the player expected to leave the Gunners sooner rather than later – but AC Milan fans are begging for their club to ignore him.
Italian outlet CalcioMercato have claimed that Xhaka, 27, is a target for Milan as they look to get their season back on track in January. They currently sit in 11th place in Serie A, with just four league wins all season.
Xhaka – who joined Arsenal from Borussia Monchengladbach for £35million – is expected to leave The Emirates sooner rather than later after the Switzerland international was stripped of his captaincy, and has since been left out of the matchday squad.
The midfielder was forced to issue a statement on social media after cupping his ear and swearing at Arsenal fans, following boos from the terraces when he was substituted during a 2-2 draw against Crystal Palace.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has since replaced the left-footed midfielder as skipper, while Xhaka has missed Arsenal’s last two matches – both of which have ended in 1-1 draws against Wolverhampton Wanderers and Portuguese side Vitoria.
AC Milan fans have reacted on Twitter to the reported news that Xhaka is believed to be a target for their club, but many Milan supporters are desperate for sporting director Paolo Maldini to overlook the Arsenal ace and look elsewhere.
